PETSAppeal: Built From the Inside

The Origin
In 2004, I owned and operated two pet grooming salons. There was nothing on the market that fit the way a small grooming operation actually worked, so I built it myself.
I developed a desktop CRM and scheduling application in Microsoft Access with a SQL Server back-end that handled everything a grooming salon needed day to day: client and pet records, appointment scheduling, and boarding management. Both of my salons ran on it.
In 2010, I sold one of the salons. The new owner inherited the software along with the business, and kept using it. When that owner eventually sold in turn, the next operator kept using it too. That current operator is still using it today, paying a monthly fee for software I built over twenty years ago, software I have continued to maintain and support through multiple ownership changes and two decades of business life.
That kind of longevity does not happen by accident. It happens when software is built by someone who actually does the work.
The Evolution
Over the years I spent working in the pet care industry myself, operating a retail pet supply store and running a parrot rescue, boarding, and sanctuary operation, I developed a much deeper understanding of the problem that original grooming app was solving.
The real issue was not just scheduling or client records. It was that every pet care provider (vets, groomers, trainers, boarding facilities, sitters, rescue organizations) operated in isolation. A pet’s health history, behavioral notes, vaccination records, and care preferences were scattered across disconnected systems, paper files, and the memories of individual staff members. Every time a pet visited a new provider, they started from scratch.
I also saw firsthand that the software available to pet care businesses was built by people who had never done a 6am feeding round, never managed a boarding facility at capacity, never dealt with the specific operational realities of this industry. The tools were generic. The gaps were obvious to anyone who actually worked in the business.
So I built PETSAppeal.
What PETSAppeal Does
PETSAppeal is a web-based, two-sided marketplace and management platform that connects pet care providers with pet owners and follows a pet through its entire life.
On the provider side, it covers the complete lifecycle of pet care services:
- Breeding: Lineage tracking and connections to new pet owners from day one
- Veterinary: AI-generated SOAP notes, health tracking, and medical records
- Grooming: Smart scheduling, service templates, before and after photos, and automated client retention
- Boarding: Capacity management, dietary tracking, medication schedules, and photo updates for owners
- Daycare: Daily check-in and out, playgroup management, and behavioral tracking
- Pet Sitting: In-home care scheduling, visit logs, and photo updates
- Training: Session tracking, progress reports, and custom training plans
- Rescue: Intake management, foster tracking, adoption workflows, and donor management
- Professional Handling: Show entry tracking, expense management, and show records
On the pet owner side, a single portal gives owners 24/7 booking access, a complete and portable record of their pet’s history across all providers, and control over which providers can access which information.
The platform’s central idea is that a pet’s records should follow the pet. When a groomer can instantly see a dog’s vaccination records from the vet, and a trainer can review behavioral notes from daycare, everyone delivers better care and no one asks the same questions twice.
Built From the Inside
PETSAppeal’s homepage says it plainly: “Your software vendor does not do 6am feeding rounds. I do.”
That is not marketing. It is the reason the software works the way it does. Every feature, every workflow, every design decision was made by someone who has done the actual work: someone who knows what it feels like to manage a boarding facility at capacity, to track medications for a dozen animals at once, to handle the operational reality of running a pet care business.
Twenty years of iteration, from a single-location desktop app to a full web platform, produced software with a perspective that no outside developer could replicate.
Current Status
PETSAppeal is live at pets-appeal.com and available to pet care providers and pet owners. The original grooming desktop application continues to operate and serve its original client.
The original desktop grooming application has been in continuous operation since 2004.
